GEORGETOWN -- INI staffers and representatives from Delaware’s southernmost county unveiled the 2008 Sussex County Profile in January at Sussex Pines Country Club in Georgetown.
The Sussex County Profile is a collaborative project of INI and the Sussex County Economic Development Office.
“The profile serves as a first introduction to potential newcomers and new businesses,” Managing Editor Andy West told the gathering of more than 80 business leaders at Sussex Pines Country Club. “In a sense, it’s the welcome mat that we roll out.”
There are 10,000 copies of the book available for distribution this year. And, it will be available online at sussexcountyprofile.com.
“The profile continues to serve its purpose as a marketing tool – whether it is used to recruit paramedics for the county or the best and brightest to serve companies like PATs or whether it’s used to introduce newcomers looking for homes here,” Mr. West said.
The INI team present for the luncheon thanked the Sussex County Council, the Sussex County administrative staff and economic development office members for working with us on this project. Sussex County Administrator David Baker and Economic Development Office representative Susan Wise were instrumental in making great suggestions for this year’s book – including using a scene from Return Day for the cover.
Return Day has been an election year tradition for nearly 300 years in Georgetown.
“As a company, we feel strongly that this is a great public and private partnership, one that has allowed us to publish this book successfully for more than a decade now,” Mr. West told the group.
The editorial material in this year’s book was championed by Cat Porterfield, her first year of service on the project. Heather Cregar led the advertising team’s efforts.
There were numerous members of the INI staff that took part in this project, started in mid-summer and completed in December.
INI’s Vice President of Corporate Operations, Darel LaPrade, Mr. West and Mrs. Cregar visited with Mr. Baker and Ms. Wise in Georgetown in mid-summer to discuss the successes and new opportunities for the Sussex County Profile. One area we all agreed on was that the book has become an excellent reference tool so we put a greater emphasis on making everything quick and easy to find items. New items added to the book were interest rates for each of the school districts, property values in the various districts and lists of the Sussex emergency groups.
The material was gathered by Logan Anderson, Alison Hammond, Glenn Rolfe, Michael Short and Jillian Tracy, as well as contributed by Sussex County staff members.
Beautiful color photos of several Sussex landmarks were taken by Dave Chambers, Dan Korup and Andy West.
The book is packed with advertising thanks to the efforts of Diane Cahall, Sharon Conaway, Barbara Drummer, Tim Gary, Sharon Harvey, Jenny Keim, Sherry Luff, Nancy Niblett, Joyce Ramsey, Vicki Rosado and Sandi Stokes. This year, more than 60 advertisers bought space.
Editorial and advertising production of this book is no small task. Mark Baker, Jeff Carney, Angi Hicks, Jenny Keim and Jason Malago all shared their expertise. This year’s book was paginated with InDesign for the first time.
Also new to this year’s Profile were comments from Mr. Baker and members of council about why Sussex County is a great place to live, work and play.
A few things cited were:
* Sandy beaches and our open fields.
* Low taxes
