Smiling Faces!

The Delaware State News was well represented at a recent Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce mixer at ig burton in Milford.  This event was co-hosted by both the CDCC and the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Milford giving the businesses throughout central Delaware the chance to do some casual networking.  Everyone enjoyed fabulous food and drinks for Abbott’s Grill in Milford.  Advertising Manager Katrina Sullivan was also excited to win a door prize… a full-stocked, revolving spice rack.  Pictured enjoying the mixer is from left, Graphic Artist Lee Hoover, Ad Managers Cyndi Eldred, Joy Ferrio and Katrina Sullivan.

Norma Kilpatrick Retires

INI says good-bye to a longtime employee and friend. The team celebrated Norma Kilpatrick's third retirement Sept. 19 with a Mexican potluck. Although, Norma is departing she agreed to stay on-call in case of staffing emergencies. The team will greatly miss Norma as she was always a team player and a joy to have in the office. Best wishes to Norma!

West Valley Publisher Charlene Bisson and Sales Consultant Mike Annear recently visited a new business that is looking to spend some long-term dollars. While discussing print and digital buys, and what makes INI unique from the competition, the owner declared our website was far better than the competition in editorial and design. He noticed how our team posted daily while the main competition in the West Valley had week-old news. He also pointed out our digital advertisers were easy to find. It was a compliment the entire West Valley team appreciated.

Hot Diggity-Dog Success with the Dog Days of Summer

The Delaware State News sales team was pleased to celebrate some good success with their first edition of the “Dog Days of Summer” sales section.  This special tab was published in a shopper-friendly 10” tab size and stapled to help increase its shelf life.  The piece was 100% full color advertising giving the local businesses the chance to promote discounted prices on loads of summer savings.    Ad Services Manager Sharon Harvey kept a tight leash on the sales effort making sure that all the ads were in by deadline and the customers were happy with their final ads.  “

Dog Days” wouldn’t have been successful without the efforts of the Graphics Team. Graphic Artist Lee Hoover (pictured centered) designed the sales flyer and the cover design, and Tim Menasco and Chris Cappalo (pictured left to right) worked on ad designs. But, a howling big “Thank You” goes to the Graphic Artists in the sister offices… Angi Hicks and Marty Gilliard, who jumped in with all four paws and helped dig through the mountain of ads to be designed. DSN Advertising Welcomes Two New Members

The Delaware State News recently welcomed Joy Ferrio to the Advertising sales team.  Joy is the new Ad Manager for the Smyrna and north Dover areas.  She brings with her 16 years of print and online media experience and numerous advertising awards.  She enjoys meeting new people and sales are her passion.  When Joy isn’t busy selling, she enjoys spending time with her family, boating, 4-wheeling and shopping, plus she does volunteer work for the Cancer Society Relay for Live and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.  She lives in Worton, Maryland with her husband of 21 years.

The State News has also been fortunate to have Christopher Cappalo join their team as a Graphic Artist for advertising.  Chris is from Newark, Delaware and graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia.  He has an extensive background in ad design and marketing including work that he has done with regional advertising agencies and major companies such as DuPont, Young & Rubicam Global, Conectiv and the Brandywine Zoo.  When Chris isn’t busy working on ads, he enjoys socializing, gardening, boating and music.

INI Arizona salutes Debbie Hanson!

Debbie Hanson recently celebrated her 25th anniversary at Valley Newspapers. Debbie's co-workers at the printing plant presented her with a special 25th anniversary cake thanking her for her contributions and efforts over the years. Debbie, who works in the pre-press department, has seen a lot of changes over the years. She began her career at our old printing plant and has grown with the ever-changing industry -- from the days of page negatives and four-color separations to fully computerized and direct-to-plate technology. 

Richard Dyer Celebrates 25 Years

 

The East Valley office celebrated Managing Editor Richard Dyer’s 25^thanniversary with the company with a cake.  Richard was hired as a copy editor for the Apache Junction Independent in August 1987.

West Valley Gets TV Coverage

Arizona West Valley Publisher Charlene Bisson is interviewed by Scott Soldat, Peoria Chamber of Commerce director, for a segment on Peoria’s Channel 11 program for the Chamber.

Charlene and Peoria/Sun City News Editor Rusty Bradshaw were both interviewed for the program. They talked about Independent’s mission, advertising opportunities and how residents can submit news articles and photographs for publication. The Chamber records various segments for a frequent program on the city’s public access television station.
