Staff Changes Announced

A number of staff changes took effect in late summer to better serve advertising clients of the Dela-ware State News and its companion publications in Kent and Sussex counties. Those include The Chronicle, Sussex Post, Greater Dover Extra and Smyrna Extra.

Longtime employee Jenny Keim now is responsible for handling support for advertising representatives for the company’s Sussex and Maryland territories. Ms. Keim has been with the company for almost 20 years and has served in a variety of positions including graphics and sales.

Tim Gary will be moving to the position of sales representative for Sussex and Maryland.

“This is a huge win for us, as Tim brings over 20 years’ experience working with our major and regional accounts — many of them in Sussex,” said Konrad La Prade, director of advertising. “Tim has lived full-time in Sussex County for 25 years. His family has owned a summer home in the county for almost 50 years, so Tim has a vast knowledge of both the history and exciting growth prospects going forward.”

Mr. Gary will continue to handle a number of regional accounts in his new role.

Joy Ferrio has returned to the Delaware State News to fill the open north Dover and Smyrna sales area, a territory that she covered for the paper a few years ago. Ms. Ferrio has worked in newspapers for over 20 years in a variety of sales and management roles.  In addition to the North Dover and Smyrna territories, she will handle automotive sales regionally.

“Joy is one of the top three sales talents I’ve ever been lucky enough to work with,” Mr. La Prade said.  “And she fits in well with our culture because she cares passionately about the results that our businesses get from their advertising.”

Marty Valania, who has been with INI as the director of sales development, has also been promoted and will now serve as the digital sales director.

“I’ve worked with Marty at three different companies now, and he has one of the sharpest digital minds in the business,” Mr. La Prade said. “I’m really excited to see him lead our staff in this new role.”

“With these changes we are much better positioned to tell our story in the next year, and ultimately we are in a great place to help businesses navigate advertising in 2019 and beyond.”

Delaware State News outsources delivery to Delaware customers

The Delaware State News has entered an agreement with Gannett Publishing Services (GPS) for daily home delivery and distribution to single-copy outlets.

Effective Monday, August 12, GPS contractors will deliver the Delaware State News.

The change follows a growing trend in the newspaper industry in which carriers will deliver multiple products. GPS carriers will deliver the Delaware State News, News Journal, Wall Street Journal, Investor Daily and other products on realigned routes.

Technology employed by GPS should lead to route optimization that should result in timely delivery to customers.

And, for the carriers, it offers an opportunity to reach more customers with multiple publications.

Each night, the Delaware State News will be printed at Delaware Printing Company and then placed on pallets to be transferred to a Dover depot where carriers will receive papers and have stations where papers can be bagged and organized.

The central location in Dover will allow ease to points north and south.

GPS will have a buy-sell relationship with the Delaware State News on single copy sales, streamlining collection and billing.

This change will not affect our Maryland distribution network.
