Apache Junction: Tending to
the proverbial flock in Apache Junction took center stage as confusion,
disbelief and fear filled the community as the novel coronavirus took hold of the
Arizona media landscape. A welcomed feature article in Apache Junction
highlighted not only Apache Junction but other East Valley houses of worship
nearby were handling Sunday Services during the pandemic. In tune with other
reprint on the changes to day-to-day lives of all Americans the local houses of
worship have quickly pivoted to the vast digital tools now available to stay
connected.

Queen Creek: It feels like summertime
in the Valley of the Sun and local officials are asking parents of young
children to be extra vigilant watching over their little ones around bodies of
water. Adding to the already busy seasonal uptick to folks seeking cooler temps
at local, private and public swimming holes the unfolding pandemic closed down
schools about a month ago keeping students in doors. Local officials say today
--- now more than ever --- the ABCs of drowning prevention or vital.

Scottsdale: A local college student reported what he claimed to be a racist
question a part of a quiz given at the Scottsdale Community College. Upon
following up on a lead from two students at the college, the accusation was
confirmed by college officials and a subsequent apology was issued by the
college. Subsequently, however, the editor who put together the piece has
received at least one hateful email reminding us all in the newsroom that hate
still exists.

Paradise Valley: A high-stakes political game may be afoot in the Town of Paradise
Valley as a longtime resident makes allegations of conflict of interest against
one elected leader. The issue stems from a million-dollar home sought to be
built atop Camelback Mountain. The lot owner wants to build a certain way and
town officials claim the approach for construction could be a danger to the
general public. The owner claims it all just because two members of Town
Council don’t want it to overshadow their home.
