The Dorchester Banner recently co-sponsored the 35th
annual Cambridge Rescue Fire Company’s Seafood Feast – I – Val.
This all-you-can-eat Chesapeake Bay steamed crab event was attended
by an estimated 2,000 people from all over the East Coast, all of whom were
hungry for the bay’s best, along with barbeque chicken, corn on the cob, fish,
fries and drinks.
More than 100 bushels of crabs, 1,00 ears of corn, 54
gallons on crab soup, 400 pounds of fish and a half a ton of fries were
consumed during the all-day event.
The staff from the Banner set up a display booth and greeted
people from 15 states, including folks that arrived on 13 charter buses and a
couple who even drove in from Vermont “just for the crabs,” the entertainment
and car show.
This was the third year The Banner has taken part in
Dorchester County’s biggest event. The newspaper also has plans to take part in
all the upcoming local fall events.
Pictured are news services staffer Sylvia Windsor,
advertising manager Dave Cannon and graphic designer Shirley Jackson; not
