Whistleblower Policy

Independent has updated its Whistleblower Policy.  The policy is an important ethical practice and supports transparency and fair play within the company.  We encourage all employees to read the Company Handbook which is located on the ADP home page.

 Whistleblower policy:

A “whistleblower” is an employee who reports an activity that he/she considers to be illegal or dishonest.  Independent Newsmedia Inc. USA is committed to high ethical standards, and therefore encourages such reports and pledges not to retaliate against whistleblowers.

If an INI employee has knowledge of, or a concern about what might be illegal, dishonest and/or fraudulent activity, or feels he or she or some other employee is being retaliated against, the employee should share his/her concerns in an email to Corporate Services Director Wanda Ford-Waring wfwaring@iniusa.org.  Or, if the employee prefers, the email can be sent to INI Board Chair Joe Smyth joesmyth@iniusa.org, Vice Chair Ed Dulin edulin@iniusa.org

Such reports will be investigated, with the results being shared with INI’s board of directors. The employee should avoid baseless allegations, and the right of a whistleblower for protection against retaliation does not include immunity for any personal wrongdoing that is alleged, investigated, and verified.

Whistleblower protections are provided in two important areas -- confidentiality and against retaliation. Insofar as possible, the confidentiality of the whistleblower will be maintained.  However, a whistleblower’s identity may have to be disclosed to conduct a thorough investigation, to comply with the law and to provide accused individuals their legal rights of defense.
