Delmarva’s Koyanagi and Riggin win Starlifter Awards

Maryland has represented well in advertising sales lately, as two Eastern Shore marketing masters shared the company’s quarterly Starlifter Award. Cathy Koyanagi and Karen Riggin were surprised with the honor at INI Delmarva Group’s sales summit on Oct. 11.

The Starlifter Award is presented to a salesperson with the best growth, digital and overall sales and “in recognition for her outstanding sales effort and her ability to raise our clients’ stars even higher.” These two ladies’ sales accounted for 75 percent of the company’s quarterly overage for Quarter 1 of FY2023.

CATHY KOYANAGI:

Cathy Koyanagi started with INI when the Salisbury Independent was launched 2014, and she recently made huge marketing strides for the new Stars of Salisbury promotion.

““This is a great honor. I could not have earned this without the help of so many others, like Jenny Keim (account services manager), Konrad LaPrade (VP of sales and marketing) and Editor Greg Bassett – Thank you.” Koyanagi said.

Outside of work, “I enjoy volunteering in my spare time. As a life member of Sharptown Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and a new two-year member of West Side Vol. Fire Dept. LAX, I stay busy and enjoy the communities I serve,” she said.

KAREN RIGGIN:

Marketing Consultant Karen Riggin primarily sells for the (Crisfield-Somerset) County Times, with 10 years’ experience at the company. Admittedly an introvert, Riggin grows as a person by stepping outside of her comfort level to sell. She focuses on building trust ant putting herself in the customers’ shoes. She recently worked on the Stars of Somerset promotions.

Riggin was honored to have her hard work recognized with the Starlifter Award. “It comes with a little luck, prayer and hard work. The funniest thing is I don’t keep track of the numbers … I am more invested on reputation so I work hard to maintain that, the money comes with it,” she said. “And, I like seeing my coworkers win it as well. Most of us, as a team, really are encouragers.”
Outside of work, Riggin’s husband and family are her life. She heads the Disaster Relief program at Oakridge (after years supporting recovery efforts around the nation) also serving on the boards for Crisfield Chamber of Commerce and the Somerset County Library.

Delmarva’s Abel wins Starlifter Award

Bay To Bay News and the Delaware State News was proud to honor marketing consultant Patrick Abel with the company’s quarterly Starlifter Award. He was surprised with the honor at Delmarva Group’s sales summit on Feb. 8.

The Starlifter Award is presented to a salesperson with the best growth, digital and overall sales and “in recognition for his outstanding sales effort and her ability to raise our clients’ stars even higher.” His work as a marketing consultant for southern Dover and Milford, Del., accounted for 30% growth in total and 300% growth in digital revenue in Quarter 2 of FY2023.

“I was totally surprised to win this award because I hadn’t been looking at the numbers recently, plus there are other reps who are consistently bringing in big sales numbers,” said Abel, a five-year member of the staff.

“Every day I begin with a checklist of what I must accomplish, and I remain focused on that list as much as possible. I realize that many prospects are not going to purchase an ad, but my job is to keep asking,” Abel said.

In his free time, he enjoys volunteering, music, art and reading.

Sun Cities newspaper editor’s 4th book now available for purchase

GLENDALE, Ariz. – A fourth book written by Rusty Bradshaw, editor of newspapers in Sun City and Sun City West, is now available for purchase on multiple platforms.

“Battle for Stephanie” was produced by iUniverse. The book is available in paperback and ebook versions on the iUniverse online bookstore, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

“This was an exciting book to write,” Bradshaw said. “There are family dynamics, suspense, the thrill of the chase and for the final portions of the book I drew on my time growing up in the mountains of Wyoming.”

“Battle for Stephanie” is a thriller with plenty of twists and turns throughout.

Stephanie Wallis was living a blissful life, from her perspective. She had two loving parents, was a good student and enjoyed school, and despite her parents struggling financially, had much of what she needed and wanted. The family had changed locations often, but she was able to adjust well each time.

But just when things seemed to be settling down, everything changed and turned her world upside down, altering her life in ways she could not imagine.

Amid her parents’ unexpected split and looming custody battle, Stephanie was abducted and saw her teacher killed. She was then thrust into a different kind of battle to recue her and restore her to her family.

Bradshaw’s other three books are “The Rehabilitation of Miss Little,” “Moist on the Mountain” and “Gorge Justice.” Visit www.rustythewriter.org.

Bradshaw is a journalist of 40 years, now working for Independent Newsmedia in Arizona. He edits weekly newspapers in the retirement communities of Sun City and Sun City West. He also worked as editor for Independent’s Surprise, Peoria and Scottsdale editions.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Oregon University, attended Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming and grew up in the small town of Dubois, Wyoming.

Bradshaw and his wife, Jeanne, live in Glendale, Arizona.
