Letter of thanks from Alaska by way of Sun City

We have a new neighbor across the street.  Her parents will be spending winters here from Alaska.  The daughter told us that she was so surprised that her parents read the weekly Independent from cover to cover.  Her dad said he thought it was a great paper and that he had never read a paper that gave so much local news…Kudos!

Special presentation from Buffalo Soldiers

Roy Walker, past president of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Delaware, presented a plaque to the Delaware State News on Monday, Aug. 10.

Accepting were Yvonne Kirksey, our customer service specialist at the front desk, and Andrew West, managing editor.

Mr. Walker recognized Yvonne Kirksey for her help in getting information about the club to the newsroom, and in turn, our readers. As he noted, “you’re the first person I see when I come in!”

Another Shares Glenn's Passion For The Cold

To Glenn Rolfe --

As a former Buffalonian who relocated to Delmar Delaware a few months before you, I enjoyed reading "Some cold, hard facts about my passion for winter" in the 11/26 Sussex County Post. I drove to Canada in October via the Finger Lakes where I was born and raised for a viewing of the fall colors that I miss. Even though New York, Canada and Pennsylvania deal with snow, cold and gray during the winter, these areas are very special to me and I hope to return there in the not too distant future. In the meantime, it's nice to know there is another northerner in the area.

Sussex County Post Editor Receives Thanks From Public

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28 would like to thank the Sussex Post and Editor Glen Rolfe for his continues support of our programs to help our veterans, military and their families and our children and youth.  Your recent coverage of our Summer Lunch  Program being held at the Lingo Creek Apartments certainly highlighted the need for this program. We would also like to thank John Asche of Jersey Mike’s who brought mini sandwiches to augment lunch when we had a wrist band project for soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.  We are very grateful to all who continue to support us.

Great Customer Service

Vicki Brown, Customer Service Rep. in the Dover office  did a memorial ad for a family who was traveling out of town.  They were so happy with what appeared in the paper when they returned to town they stopped in the office and presented her with a Thank You card signed by the whole family. Well done Vicki!!!

 Vicki writes:
“I was contacted by a family via phone and was asked what was needed to place a memorial notice in the paper.  The family was traveling out of town and there was no one here local to follow up and the initial contact person was unable to be contacted also.  I made several calls to get all of the information and payment need to run the ad on Sunday 3/30/14 and the family was filled with gratitude that I followed up repeatedly until I obtained all of the info needed.”

A Dedicated Team Pulls It Off

Good morning, Ed.

I just wanted to congratulate you and your team on a very successful and smooth transition to your new Brainworks system. Your team, led by Danielle Musser included Kelsie Knight, Michelle Vinson, Lori Kircher, Linda Sabo, Wanda Ford-Waring and Darel LaPrade (hopefully I haven’t left anyone out). To think that this team got your site live in only 5 ½ months is really quite amazing and stands as a testament of their commitment to your organization and their hard work.

We’re thrilled to be working with you and look forward to a long business relationship with INI.

Thanks, and again, Congrats!

Kudos for Glenn From Special Olympics

Sussex County Post Editor Glenn Rolfe received some positive comments from the folks at Special Olympics Delaware.  (see picture of front page below)

Hey Glenn,

We were at Milford Bowl yesterday and saw the front page of the Sussex Post and can't tell you how appreciative we are for not only the placement but the great article that went with it.

You nailed all the points, as my colleagues who organize the Spread the Word campaign pointed out -- and the first writer to ever do so in 7 years.

Thanks again my friend for the continued support and great coverage.

I might even pray for another snow storm for you!

Jon Buzby
Director of Media Relations

Hi Glen,

I wanted to echo Jon Buzby's note of thanks and let you know how much we appreciate the coverage you gave to Special Olympics' Pledge Respect campaign. It is through articles like these that we get people's attention and promote our program successfully to the community.

Well done!

Best regards,
Ruth T. Coughlan

Nice Note

Kathy Cooper, one of our readers, sent me (Andy West, editor DSN) a nice note last week that serves as a great reminder of the connection we have with people. It reads:

"I don't know if you were aware that my Precious Mom, Jane D. Wingfield, passed away on Jan.19, 2014.  She loved writing letters to the Editor, many of which you printed. When she was unable to write, you were kind enough to write the letter for her when she called to give you her opinion by phone. She was so tickled to see it in the paper! Thank you very much for always being so kind to her. She loved living here in Delaware these past 5 years. My Mom was quite a neat Lady and the world will miss her feisty spirit!"

Great Example of Self-Management and People Who Care

This past weekend Delmarva experienced yet another winter snow storm that affected our production and left us scrambling to close the month and take care of our customers.  While everyone everywhere at INI stepped up and helped out we had two at DPC that really went “above and beyond” to make sure our customers and production employees were taken care of.  Recognizing Monday was going to be a “snow day”  Jaclyn Fuller and Toni Hewes, on their own, decided they better go into work on Sunday to close the month and do all the “prep” work for the next two days.  Adjusting print and work schedules, calling customers, invoicing jobs, doing mail files, contacting employees who would be affected by the storm and completing as much of the “upfront” production that they could to keep work flowing.

They did a great job and we thank them for their initiative and more importantly how much they care about our company and customers!

…and from one of our customers affected by the snow storm!

Good morning Tom,

I just wanted to let you know that Jaclyn has certainly gone above and beyond for our newspaper, The Delmarva Farmer. She is always so great to work with.

We had some delivery issues yesterday because the post office here in Easton didn’t have anyone to take the paperwork for our March 4th edition. Jaclyn was in touch with us (our office was closed) to make sure we knew about this issue and let us know each step of the way what was happening.

I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate her.

Thanks,
Megan

Raving Fan!

Ms. Bisson,

I am the Publicity Chairperson for the Sun City Women’s Chorus.  For the last three years, I have had the pleasure to work with Jeremy Carr at the Independent to advertise our Chorus and our two yearly concerts.  So often it has been a hassle dealing with various publications, but not with Jeremy.  He has gone out of his way to be helpful, especially when I first took over this position.  He is knowledgeable, answers any questions or concerns promptly, and professionally represents your organization.  I can’t tell you how happy I have been working with him.  I simply wanted you to know what a great asset you have in him!!

A Raving Fan

Jeremy Carr received the following compliment --

“I could not allow myself to not tell you HOW GOOD PAGE 13 is?  You have done a marvelous job in having family name, address, city under each picture. It is a HIGH LIGHT ON ONE PAGE!!  If there is an .award for reporting HOLIDAY DECORATIONS, you would win it. We had a couple in a Golf cart last night that had GPS on their cell phone & they were using the SCW addresses from your page. I loved it!! Best wishes to you & yours this HOLIDAY SEASON!” Coach
